ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is designed to teach skills to help caregivers competently and confidently intervene with an individual at risk of suicide. ASIST prepares caregivers and helpers from all walks of life to integrate principles of intervention into everyday practice.
ASIST is divided into four learning modules: attitudes, knowledge, intervention & resources. Skills and principles are illustrated with case studies, videos, live dramatizations, simulations and practice exercises utilizing a Suicide Intervention Model and workbook.
Upon completion, participants are better able to:
- Reduce attitudinal barriers that hinder one’s ability to be direct and comfortable in suicidal situations
- Dispel myths about suicide
- Practice intervention techniques
- Develop a collaborative resource network
