Community Empowerment...
Provides technical support for IEC meetings:
The Community Development Specialist attends each school district’s Indian Education Committee (IEC) meetings; also known as the Parent Committee meetings. They assist the IEC in parent rights and responsibilities; they can keep parents informed of issues facing Indian families in the local schools.
Parent and Student Advocacy:
The Community Development Specialist works as an advocate for families when there are educational issues that arise within their child’s school. They also work as a liaison between the parents, students and their school. The CDS can attend any meetings with the school upon parental request.
